The recent troubles were probably a consequence of brexit. Predicted.

A period of adjustment is needed from all sides. Time is the best healer. Time is the best counsellor. These old English proverbs are very meaningful. No one should wish to stir up hatred of one community in Northern Ireland against another in this religious sectarian divide. My attitude will be to not do anything to inflame the situation for only democratic reforms on the basis of the Good Friday agreement should be the basis of evolutionary changes within Northern Ireland. Brute force cannot stop the violence for those aggrieved that their religion is being swamped will be willing to go down as martyrs to their cause of preserving their religion. I would suggest that a referendum to gauge real public opinion now that the Brexit dust settled would be a good way forward. Involve the people and give them democratic powers to influence changes to the way they live constantly on the guard that we in the United Kingdom can make things worse for the people of Northern Ireland in our steadfast determination to hold on to the structure of Unionism.
Each country or region must fend for itself economically, for at the end of the day the food in the belly is what will guide public opinion. This principle should be applied by the government of the United Kingdom in dealing with Unionism. The army marches on its stomach.
